Transitioning to a low-carbon future

The Kingdom of Bahrain is committed to reaching Net Zero emissions by 2060, setting a range of ambitious interim goals to ensure that we proceed without delay.

By 2035, the Kingdom of Bahrain aims to reduce emissions by 30% through decarbonization and efficiency initiatives, doubling the deployment of renewables and afforestation efforts, and quadrupling mangroves in the Kingdom.

Bapco Energies is strategically and operationally positioned to contribute to delivering the Kingdom's climate commitments while facilitating economic growth.

Bapco Energies' decarbonization strategy

The Kingdom of Bahrain’s energy landscape is changing. The way forward is global, collaborative, and inclusive. We are developing a comprehensive decarbonization strategy that aligns closely with the National Energy Strategy and Bahrain Blueprint.

1 Energy efficiency improvements

Incorporate energy-efficient technologies and practices across all operations to reduce energy consumption and optimize resource utilization.

2 Carbon emissions reduction

Collaborate with industries in the Kingdom to develop solutions such as carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) clusters and ramp up alternative energy sources, accelerating progress towards emission reduction targets.

3 Renewable energy integration

Diversify the Kingdom of Bahrain’s energy mix by investing in renewable energy projects and fostering partnerships to promote sustainable and clean energy solutions.

4 Net Zero by 2060 commitment

Bapco Energies has included an interim absolute reduction target for Scope 1 and 2 emissions to fulfill its Net Zero commitment.
