In support of Bahrain’s National Action Plan initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality, announced by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and in line with the recently established annual National Tree Week initiative launched by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Bapco Energies proudly underscores its dedication to environmental stewardship through an array of green initiatives. From mangrove restoration efforts to public park projects, Bapco Energies remains committed to advancing Bahrain’s National Afforestation Plan, aiming to double tree cover and quadruple mangrove habitats by 2035, advancing the Kingdom’s commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Highlighting the Group’s dedication, Mr. Mark Thomas, Group CEO of Bapco Energies, stated: “Bapco Energies believes that true energy leadership involves investing in a sustainable future. Our commitment to National Tree Week and our partnerships in mangrove planting and community parks exemplify our vision of a greener, more resilient Bahrain. By enhancing natural ecosystems, we’re investing in the future health of our communities and the environment alike.”

Through projects such as the Princess Sabeeka Park in Awali and the Hunainiyah Park in Riffa, Bapco Energies and its subsidiaries have transformed key areas into green havens that contribute to air quality, community well-being, and ecological resilience. Additionally, ongoing mangrove plantation activities at Ma’ameer Channel reinfornce the Group’s commitment to carbon capture, coastal protection, and habitat restoration. Recent efforts saw over 16,060 mangrove seedlings planted in partnership with the Supreme Council of Environment, marking significant progress in coastal reforestation.

Furthermore, Bapco Energies proudly supports the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) through the East Sitra Waterfront Afforestation project, focusing on planting trees along Bahrain’s Eastern coastline and providing green spaces for the community. The Company has also collaborated with the Bahrain International Circuit, for the third consecutive year, to launch the ‘Green Ticket’ initiative that funds a program of mangrove planting, supporting the Kingdom’s target. For every ticket sold at the World Endurance Championship weekend, a portion of the revenue is matched by Bapco Energies.

Additionally, environmental projects at Refinery Island and Ma’ameer Park reflect Bapco Energies’ focus on sustainable operations and biodiversity. These initiatives are part of the Bapco Modernization Program (BMP), designed to reduce emissions and enhance energy efficiency.

Through these efforts, Bapco Energies is not only enhancing Bahrain’s greenery but also fostering a culture of environmental responsibility across the Kingdom, underscoring the role of public and private sectors in realizing a sustainable future.
